Sephora Play Box July 2017

Sephora Play Box July 2017

Heyyyyy!   I am reviewing the Sephora Play Box for July 2017.  Did you see the vlog?

Check out my YouTube channel here!

If you’ve never participated in the Sephora Play box, it is a beauty subscription service similar to Ipsy and Birchbox.  All of the products are brands sold at Sephora.  You typically get about five products per box in sample sizes so you can test them out and figure out what works best for your needs.  It’s only $10/month, which I find to be a steal since other beauty subscription services can run double that.

Let’s run through what’s in this box:

Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara by IT Cosmetics

This formula is supposed to lengthen while conditioning with collagen, biotin, and peptides.  Long lashes are healthy, conditioned lashes.  I tested this mascara both at home and during my 12-hour shift at the hospital.  It stayed on all day without smudging, flaking or fading.  Mascara that ends up under your eyes half-way through a shift is the worst.  I have long eyelashes that graze my skin in both directions and keeping me from looking like a raccoon is difficult.  (I have tried most of the mascara offerings at Sephora.)  My favorite is Buxom by Bare Minerals but this one is going into rotation in my arsenal.  Waterproof mascaras are a nightmare to get off but this one stays in place and isn’t waterproof so it doesn’t take cooking grease to remove.  If you have a favorite mascara, comment below and let me know what it is.  Mascaras are prob my favorite type of product to test!

Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask by Ren

This mask reduces redness and calms irritation.  This one is great for sunburned skin or those with sensitive and problematic issues like eczema.  I wish I would have had this on my trip to Europe this year.  The dry air on the plane is killer to my already dry skin.  This is serious plant-based skincare.  I do recommend this year round during the sun-soaked summer or blustering winters (not here, obvs….we have just been skipping over winter completely these last few years.  I’m currently making the biggest frowning face.  Hmmph.)  In all seriousness, keep this one around for serious pampering hydration.  I don’t recommend using git more that once a week, I don’t care what the label says.  My parched skin has been throughly hydrated after using just once.

Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque by Madam C.J. Walker

Say hello to your newest little hair weapon.  My red strands are dry, coarse, and need extra love always.  I am a sucker for a good hair masque.  It smells like a cross between gardenia and spearmint.  Certified organic ingredients and cruelty free.  I used it after my shower last night and my hair is baby soft and more manageable.  I used the blowdryer and fingers only to dry it to almost good and straight.  Also, I slept on it and it didn’t get kinky overnight, so I saved time not having to straighten it.  The packaging says it is good for all hair types.  The only one I can attest to is mine.  It’s a mask for scalp to ends but I recommend just mid-hair to ends if your hair is fine or your scalp is excessively oily.

Clinique Chubby Stick Color Balm

I know why the chubby sticks get so many positive raves.  It’s light and moisturizing and easy on color.  I received Woppin Watermelon but even for my fair complexion, it isn’t really any color to write home about.  While it is a lovely pink, even my simple self would like one with an ever so slightly darker color of pink.  Maybe my lips are naturally too dark for this shade?  Idk.  I will def be buying some of these…but now that I think about it, I feel like I’ve seen something similar (and cheaper) in the isles at the drug store.  Interested? Face to the Finish Moisturizer by Perricone MD

Please understand how out of this world the products by Dr. Perricone are.  Please also understand how expensive they are and how sad and anorexic my wallet is.  Is the money worth it?  From my experience, yes!  I have tried some other products in the past and noticed a difference even in my young skin.  I only returned a few items due to smell.  Dr. Perricone believes in products that work.  It is a science-based brand so if altering the scent will compromise the efficacy of the product, they don’t add it in.  I love that commitment to giving the buyers a quality product that produces results.  Anyway, this moisturizer smells beautiful like a fresh rose and makes my skin feel baby soft.  It issssss $75 bucks for 4 oz.  You won’t need a lot per application, but I haven’t gathered the balls to drop that kind of cash on face cream.  I just can’t.

BonBon by Viktor & Rolf

I had no idea before researching this brand that it is an Amsterdam fashion house.  We are all familiar with their internet-stopping powerhouse Flowerbomb.  Personally, I am sensitive to scents, and Flowerbomb is way too powerful for me.   This scent is lighter with notes of orange blossom and flowers.  It feathers out into a vanilla and what reminds me of paper.  I actually tested it at work today, and am not overwhelmed.  If you like YSL’s Black Opium, but need something lighter and (IMO) more summer appropriate, this one will do it for you.  I just can’t handle overpowering scents when it feels like 110 and humid.  P.S. Omg I’m a sucker for perfume bottles, though, and this one is the absolute cutest!  See the widget below and prepare to swoon.
